Debunking 5 Myths About Manifestation

Updated: Jun 19

Myth #1: You always have to feel good.

Why I don't like it: This myth is mostly just a misconception. In the law of attraction, you learn that to feel good as to be in alignment with your desires. This is true. But most people misunderstand this rule, and they become resistant towards their limiting beliefs and negative feelings because of it.

Here's the truth: It’s not that you are pushing your manifestations away when you feel a negative emotion, it's that you are pushing your manifestations away when you feel negatively about your desire.

So let’s break this down.

Just because you feel bad about one thing doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re going to feel bad about your desire. For example, let’s say you’re manifesting money; and while you’re holding the faith and expecting an extra $1500 to come into your account... you have a fight with your boyfriend. You can feel uncertain in your relationship with your boyfriend, while still feeling certain that your money manifestation is on the way.

As long as you’re still feeling good about your money manifestation, then your money is still on the way. Even when you’re feeling bad about your romantic relationship with your boyfriend. So it’s not that you have to feel good about everything all of the time.

And it’s not that you have to run away from feeling bad about your desires, either. Let’s say you’re manifesting money, and a part of you feels doubt that the money is going to show up for you. Your doubt isn’t your enemy. Your negative feelings are not what’s determining whether or not you manifest your desire. It’s what you do with your negative feelings that determines what manifests.

If you feel your doubts, processing and debunking them… and then you tell yourself the story that money gets to come to you easily, and you get to receive now… and you see yourself receiving the money, and/or you see yourself having received the money… then you’ve shifted your energy, and the money is on its way, hitting your account any minute now.

It’s not the feeling bad that hinders you. It’s ignoring, resisting, and shaming the bad feelings that can hinder you. And lastly, I must mention that human emotions are complex. You can feel good about your desires, even when you experience negative emotions. For example, you can choose to know that the money is coming in, even when you’re experiencing doubts. The better you get at shifting your limiting beliefs, the more confident you become that you get to receive your desires. This means you can know that you are always receiving, even with your doubts or perceived limitations. At some point, you realize that limiting beliefs coming up are a normal part of the process. So they become no big deal.

Now, let’s consider that myth debunked and move on.

Myth #2: You MUST take physical action.

OK, so technically taking action is a part of the manifestation process. However, the emphasis that many coaches put on taking action is unhelpful. They make it seem like if you don't take action, then you can't have what you want. And, to me, that sounds a lot like the argument that "if you don't do all of your homework and take advanced classes, then you can't get into a good college and you can't make any money when you grow up." And that, is bullshit.

My point is this: Your job is to know what you want. And to see yourself having or experiencing or being what you want. And then to have faith that everything is manifesting and it’s all coming together. And to keep seeing yourself in this desired way until it just feels like your normal, natural way of being.

The most important actions that you take are internal. This looks like shifting your thoughts and beliefs and energy with journaling, EFT tapping, meditating, visualizing, scripting, and breath work.

Outside of being committed to creating an internal experience where you see yourself as having your desire… you do not have to do anything else. This is because the physical action needed to manifest your desires will come naturally to you.

Let's say you’re manifesting a new job. You're committed to creating an internal experience where you have the salary of your dreams. In this case, you will be so powerfully inspired to apply to the perfect job when it’s time. Or you’ll be powerfully inspired to attend a networking event. Or you’ll be powerfully inspired to take a walk around your neighborhood.

Seriously, when I was manifesting clients and money a few months ago, I went for a walk around my neighborhood and had a conversation with one of my neighbors who offered to pay me for an hour of my time. I had no way of consciously knowing that I was going to run into this neighbor. I had no way of consciously knowing that he would be interested in my work. but I didn’t have to know. That is the beauty of manifestation. It’s the beauty of working with infinite intelligence.

The universe knows exactly where you are in relation to your desire. And as you do the emotional and energetic mindset work needed to become a vibrational match to your desires, all of the physical elements come together naturally.

Here's what you need to understand: So many people are teaching about manifestation from a hyper masculine place. They are teaching about manifestation in a way that makes you feel like if you don’t take physical action, then you can’t get what you want or desire. But that’s not true.

Any action you take to bring about your desires gets to be inspired. And the beautiful thing about inspired action is that it lights you up. It makes you feel good. You feel compelled to do it.

The only caveat that I’ll mention here before we move on is that sometimes you might be afraid to take your inspired action. You might be inspired to ask for more money, but afraid that people won’t be able to pay higher rates. That's just a limiting belief being triggered that you've got to work through. This is why it’s important to be intimate with how you feel. The more sensitive you are to your own feelings, the easier it is for you to discern between what thoughts are coming from limiting beliefs, and which thoughts are coming from your inner being, or intuition.

So to recap this: You don’t have to worry about physical action. If physical action needs to be taken for your manifestation to occur, you will be powerfully inspired to take that action. Stop focusing on taking physical action, and start focusing on creating an internal experience that makes you feel confident about what you get to have and who you get to be.

Myth #3: God decides when you get to receive.

How many times have you heard or thought phrases like "if it’s meant to be then it will happen" or "what's meant for me will be" or even "rejection is God's protection"? These phrases are the perfect examples of a limiting belief that is incredibly popular, especially in the spiritual community. It's the limiting belief that says God is deciding what, and when, you get to receive.

Here's why I hate it: The universe is not some force, outside of you, that is deciding whether or not you get to have what you want.

Here's the truth: Your physical reality is a reflection of your beliefs. Your physical reality is a reflection of your energy. Your physical reality is a reflection of your dominant focus and point of attraction. When you say "if it’s meant to be, then it will happen," you’re not leaving it up to the Universe, or chance, to decide. You’re leaving it up to your subconscious beliefs and previous assumptions to decide.

If you want to receive your desire now, then your job is to see yourself receiving now. Your job is to believe that you get to receive now. Your job is to live and walk and talk as if you are receiving what you want right here and right now. And it initially takes some internal work and shifting and reflection to receive right here and right now because you’ve got to clear out those old, unhelpful beliefs saying you don’t get to have what you want.

One of my favorite ways to look at this is the idea I heard from my mentor, Cara Alwill. She says, suffering is hard, and so is putting in the work to change your mindset: choose your hard.

Personally, I choose the "hard" that support me in creating an emotionally fulfilled life in the long run. I prefer to shift my beliefs, and shift my energy, right here and right now because the momentum of this mindset work will continue to build overtime; turning me into someone who’s dominant vibration, and point of attraction, is always one that supports me in receiving what I want. In other words... the longer you do this work, the easier it is for you to manifest. It’s the most challenging in the beginning. And it is incredibly rewarding here, on the other side.

So, choose your hard. But remember, being willing to sit in your suffering is a hard with no end in sight.

Myth #4: You need to use methods.

Okay, hear me out: I don't hate the 3-6-9 or the 5x55 or whatever other methods are popular in the manifesting community. But the way these methods are advertised... they way you're being taught to use them... it's just not sustainable.

Here's why I really don't like it: Manifestation isn't a trick where you have to say your desires 3 times out loud, stick out your tongue, turn around 9 times, and flicker the lights on and off before you get to have what you want. These tips can be a bit gimmicky and superficial to me because manifestation is about so much more. Manifestation is not about doing a whole bunch of methods in order to get one thing.

Like, you could manifest one thing with these methods... but why would you use your limited, powerful energy to manifest one thing when you could manifest an entire lifestyle.

Why manifest a text message when you could manifest a loving, secure and healthy relationship?

Why manifest $1,000 when you could manifest a life where the money needed for your survival and enjoyment of life is always coming in?

Here's the truth: Manifestation is about seeing and relating to the world, yourself, and your power in a new way. Manifestation is about using the power of your mind, thoughts, and energy to call in your desires.

Methods can help you to manifest; but you've got to understand why they're helpful. And you've got to use them properly.

Writing "I am a millionaire" 55 times isn't going to get you millions of dollars if you simultaneously feel unworthy of money, and powerless to get what you want out of life.

The methods don't create your reality. When you do these methods, and you're focussing on what you want, feeling positive expectation about your desire... that's what's creating your reality.

Your manifestation process should be easy and repeatable. It should have you identifying and shifting your limiting beliefs. And it should have you tapping into the vibration of your desire.

The goal is to focus on what you want with little to no resistance. The goal is to believe that you get to receive your desires. The goal is to feel empowered in your own life. The goal is to create subconscious beliefs that support you in continuing to receive your desires for like... ever.

Using one time consuming method to get one thing just isn't sustainable. Using your time to follow a process that's going to help you create the belief that you get to receive your desires quickly and easily? Now, that's sustainable.

My argument is that you should be using your time to focus on creating beliefs now that will also support you in the future.

Methods aren't teaching you how to do that on their own.

If you're serious about your empowerment and manifestation practice, I suggest you enroll in a course, buy a program, or work with a coach who can teach you to use your mindset and energy today as an investment in your future.

Myth #5: You are manipulating others.

This one is soo good. Well, the truth behind the myth is so good and freeing.

Instead of just debunking this one, let's take it to the root causes.

If you feel afraid of manifesting what you want from people, you just feel guilty and ashamed around receiving. Maybe you grew up in a household (like I did) where your parents shamed others for being "money hungry" or asking to get their needs met.

When you feel that it's manipulative to receive from others, you probably also have a fucked up perception of other people. Maybe you see other people as being helpless and "in need", so taking from them would be wrong. Maybe you see other people as being disinterested in giving to you. If you grew up in a household where your parents struggled to take care of you, or were apathetic towards your wants and needs... then you probably deal with these limiting beliefs.

The beautiful part is that all of that can be shifted.

It's never true that it's wrong to get what you want out of life. It's never true that it's inherently harmful to receive what you want and need from others.

This is your life. If you want to create a reality where people thrive after they give to you, then you can absolutely do that. In fact, I teach you how to do that inside of my "How To Receive" Course. Inside, you'll learn how to release those old beliefs, heal the parts of you who feel neglected after your childhood, and to receive the love, money, support, and care that you desire.

You deserve to be fulfilled. You don't have to be guilty. There are people in the world who would love to give to you... but you can't encounter them, or those experiences, while you're telling the story that receiving your desires is wrong.

Alright. There you have it. 5 of the most common manifestation myths busted!
